Title: 1.6 valve springs in aaz head?
Post by: bugnut on June 02, 2010, 08:40:05 pm
I am working on a 1.9/1.6 engine right now. I have brand new valve springs that I have for my 1.6 head that I am no longer using since I went the 1.9 route.  Question is will the springs from the 1.6 work in the new head.  I see there is a .090" difference between the two springs with the 1.6 springs being longer.  I figure the difference is because the 1.9 is hyd lifter and the 1.6 is solid. With that thinking the vavle stems are shorter in the the 1.9.

All I can figure is there will be more tension on the valve with the longer springs as long as I don't coil bind the longer spring.  Has anyone else tried this?

im willing to bet you would get some coil bind with the long springs on the short valves.. vw made different springs for different valve train for a reason.
