Title: Single mass pressure plate and clutch disc on an ALH engine??
Post by: redneck_vdub on June 01, 2010, 04:05:45 pm
I picked up a single mass flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch disc from a 2001 2.0L jetta from the wreckers with the intention of putting it on my ALH TDI. Is this possible? Or do I need to use the dual mass setup?

Converting from dual mass to single mass is a pretty common "upgrade" for TDI owners... either because their DMF has failed outright or they have read about the failure issues and decide to do it in advance.  I'm in the latter camp personally, but going for a Stage III South Bend while I'm at it.

I'm not entirely sure if the ABA (2L) clutch and pressure plate will fit... most people talk about using the VR6 version... but in general single mass will work fine.  Some people report a tiny bit more chattering at idle... others had such a noisy DMF that *anything* is way quieter.  ;-)
