Title: VE pump parts
Post by: Kudagra on December 05, 2005, 08:25:04 pm
Ok I used the search feature and my ADD had taken over...

Where can I get seals and vanes for my VE pump?

How about boost pins? Are new ones available of do I have to scrounge in the junk yard?

What is the Star (wheel) spring?

We sell seal kits for bosch VE pumps. Price kind of varies on how complete you would like it. What do you mean by vanes in the pump? I can source any internal parts you may need as well. IF you are planning on rebuilding a pump there are a lot more internal pieces that need to be replaced than you would think. Its pretty easy to spend $300-400 on just parts rebuilding an injection pump. I can also get the retarded triangle shaped socket for removing the lever assembly on the pumps, but you don't want to know how much it costs

I made a run of these once. If there was a demand I could likely do it again, I still have the programs on disk. I don't really want to get involved in the distribution of product, but I can certainly manufacture it. With all these new diesel tuning companies springing up, maybe one would like to take on a line of QuickTD tools?

I would like a run to consist of at least 10pcs, otherwise I have to charge too much,  :D The CNC setup is kind of a pain for one or two...

Marc (Redrotors) has been a low volume distributer in the past, and seems willing to do it again. Perhaps we can get something going... I imagine price could be kept in the $15-20CDN area? Depending on volume, the higher the demand the cheaper it becomes as the setup time/run time ratio improves.

Stay tuned...

Wow that is cheap! my bosch one was around $60 CAD. Will these be made using a 3/8 socket drive?

No doubt the bosch tool will be of excellent quality, and it shows in the cost.

Yes, the triangle sockets do have a 3/8 drive. I keep things inexpensive in a couple of ways. First, I don't have in house heat treating facilities, so I make all my tools from pre heat treated 4140 steel. This material is soft enough to machine (with carbide) but is still plenty durable for DIY use. Wall thickness is heavier than your average socket, so strength is not an issue. To my knowledge none have ever been broken. Black oxide coating is the norm, no chrome toolbox jewelry here, function takes priority. Basically, if you can live without the chrome you can save yourself 40 bucks.

Look at the bottom of the left bar on the site, there are options to select CAD or EUR currency.

I'd def. be interested in the triangle socket and if your setup for timing tools...i'd take a set of them too. I'm sure we could get with mark and post this as a group buy in the group buy/vendors forum...  I can also pull from the Vortex too, many that have been asking me about the m-TDI project on the Rabbit, etc. too that are looking for good deals on timing tools, etc...

I know of another that can use the triangle socket too...so count me in for two :)

I suppose I might take up the opportunity as well....my cut down 12mm works and all, but a real socket would be nice.

Mike, I had a homemade socket as well, wasn't too bad, but the real thing is sooo much nicer to work with, especially for those bolts that are really torqued down. You can't beat the price!
Title: injection pump tools

If you are digging that far into an injection pump you should get one of these tools too:

The 2 pronged tool on the right fits the nut it's pointing toward.

Here's a picture of my home made tool for removing the triangle bolt. A 12mm, 6 point socket, with every other flat ground out:

Fatmobile, I have never come across that nut I see there for the governor shaft, all of the ones I have built for VE's are just a 13mm...

So would you guys also be interested in IDI timing tools? cam lock, pump lock, spanner wrench for tensioner and dial indicator?
