Hey - I've had my 97 diesel for a few years now, but have never really investigated the actual engine any further.
Its a 97 diesel golf. Canadian spec. Does that make it an IDI?
-
Hrm, 97 might be an AAZ or an AHU, that is, IDI or TDI...
The single easiest way I know of to check, is to pop open the hood and take a look at the injection pump. If you've got a mechanical throttle cable, then you have an IDI.

97 Golf were all IDI.
-
So its def. an IDI?
-
if its the original motor that came in the car, yes.
-
97 Golf were all IDI.
My mistake, I thought it might be TDI, but they must have been only in Jetta/Passat
-
AFAIK:
passat TDI started 1996
jetta TDI started 1997
golf TDI started 1999
-
where can I find more info on this engine?
-
What in particular do you need to know? There's a wealth of information on this board, and if someone here doesn't know, they know where to find it.
