the sheet right behind the door card that keeps the rain out of the passenger compartment.
-
Go to a mattress store and ask them if they have a used mattress bag you can have. They are made of a nice thick plastic that should hold up.
-
Or a small roll of vapor barrier from your local Home Depot will work as well...you can get it in various thicknesses.
-
I used a garbage bag and that annoying clear tape to hold it to the door, it's actually pretty good.
-
Use bubblewrap.
It's thick but fits,
keeps the door more quiet, when driving and sounds more solid when you shut it,..
and warmer on your left leg in the winter.

haha bubble wrap. this threads pretty funny to hear what everyone used. i used an old shower curtain

This. It's almost exactly the same material, you can get really cheap ones if you look, like 99 cents at dollar stores. And one curtain is usually enough for two doors. :) You can also use the butyl stuff at lowes/home depot to seal the edges, it's basically the same stuff the factory used and it's also cheap.

Where in HD would I find a roll of the butyl rope? I've bought it at auto stores, but it's usually a pretty thick rope.

I used double-stick tape,
stuff for putting that clear plastic on your windows,... that gets heat-shrinked with a hairdrier.
-
Old thread I know.
I am getting ready for this. Wish me luck. I like the idea of bubble wrap. But shower curtains at the thrift store are cheap:D
-
That bubble wrap idea is awesome!
I've got 6mil dust collector bags with double sided tape on mine
-
I use "DUCK" brand carpet tape (goes on thin and the sheeting holds well, but can safely be pulled). Then I get some heavy MIL sheet plastic from the hardware store.
-
Is this the "big bubble" bubble wrap, or the "little bubble" bubble wrap?

I would guess little bubbles as the big ones probably wouldn't fit as well.
-
I was shopping a local furniture store dumpster for heavy plastic for putting over windows during winter,
and found some industrial strength bubble wrap,
the bubbles were small but I couldn't pop them.
I had to tape a small flap,
where the stock barriers have one,
down by the vent, so water wouldn't flow inside the car.
-
Just going to say that......

I used the polytarp vapor barrier. should be found in the insulation/ ducting area at home depot/lowes/ watever hardware..

Did my Driver rear door this weekend. It is raining now and still leaks. I should ask on the proper procedure of how to put the shower curtain on the VW as I obviously did it wrong. I double sided taped it to the door card and didn't put anything on the door. Where do you tape a small flap for the water doesn't go into the car?
-
Taping it to the door card was the problem.
Doesn't seal the water inside the door that way.
On some doors there is an area you can't seal to due to the "vent" at the bottom.
Rain can come down the door and out this vent.
If you don't put an inner flap over it.
-
The "vent" is it toward the front or back of the door? Or is it just the big hole that the window regulator goes through?
-
If it exists in your car you'll see it.
Usually near the rear of the door,... on the front doors.
