Title: After Market Turbo for 1.6 n/a engine
Post by: TijuanaTom on April 28, 2010, 05:43:35 pm
I wonder if its possible to install a turbo to my non turbo 1.6 diesel engine?

Would a callaway or garnet work?

Thanks, JM

Short answer yes. Anything is possible and turboing your na 1.6 falls closer to simple rather than possible. Any kit for an 8v gasser will probably work perhaps with some minor modifications. You will need an egt gauge so as to not melt stuff, the td motors have oil squirters to keep things cooler and are made of slightly different alloys to withstand higher heat. I would suggest reading a large portion of this site and using the search function. There is much knowledge in this site.

And where do you keep finding new blocks?

The junkyard probably? Or the classifieds, craigslist etc.

a COUPLE of times?!?!

yes Ed, ive murdered AT LEAST 2 blocks with just boost alone. blew the whole end of #4 cyl off the block on the last one. i had a feeling i knew what was up when there was oil and coolant on my drivers side tire, and running down my fender. thats how hard it exploded. my hood was closed too.
