Title: I need a head asap
Post by: jpedro on April 26, 2010, 08:59:23 pm
So my car blew a timming belt the other day. I pulled the head off and everthing, #1 cylinder has a bent exhaust valve. i would rather get a 2nd hand brand new head rather then waste time rebuilding mine, and i need a vehicle for work and what not, i dont like relying on people for rides. but to the point of the story im gunna need instructions for timming the engine once i get the new head all on tourque specs for the magor components, and if there is one of the hydraulic covers over the springs that moves freely but i cannt get it out how do i go about doing so? the others slipped out when i flipped the head upside down. mainly need help doing the timming part the rest can be figured out fairly simple so all the help i can get is muchly appreciated

thanks Jpedro

oh and i am located in Terrace BC Canada so someone fairly close with a head would be a bonus for shipping costs.

AAZ heads are pretty rare these days... it may take a while to find a good one so you may have to be a bit patient.

i would look into buying an exhaust valve and lifter if thats all thats visibly wrong. if it didnt mangle the head or the valve seat then you should be good to go.

The tricky bit will be if one or more valve guides got messed up in the process... pretty much need a machine shop to replace 'em.

From his sig line:
Quote
1990 VW Jetta 1.6L TD 235000kms Custom cold air intake and Custom 3" straight pipe[quote/]

So we can assume its hydraulic.

isnt it safe to assume that if the old valve comes out nicely, and the new one goes back in and doesnt move around, then the valve guides are alright? just re-seal them and go? its gonna be pretty appearent if the valve guides are messed up wont it?
