I've parted out a few MK1 TD's, all had clocks..  Maybe non U.S. cars got them..  The most common option is to convert a MK1 gasser tach..

or just swap in a mk2 tach, my 81 rabbit has a 92 cluster in it.

Mid eighties Volvo Turbo Diesels had tachs.
