Title: Straight pipe exhaust..?
Post by: redneck_vdub on April 16, 2010, 03:16:23 pm
I have a mk4 golf. i am thinking about doing a 2.5" straight pipe exhaust from the turbo back. ive heard you are supposed to leave the catalytic converter on, is this true? Or am i safe doing all straight pipe?

take off what you like, as long as the police dont mind or your inspection place. In the UK no-one minds as long as it does not smoke like a train!!

Mines got a straight pipe but still has the CAT, that's next on the 'remove' list!!

coming out behind the front wheel will be loud, smell of diesel all the time, and be illegal. pretty sure your exhaust is supposed to exit behind the passenger compartment. might be a us only law tho.

the law in the uk just says the exhaust needs to exit on the drivers side of the vehicle.

i changed from a 3inch to 21/2 inch and didnt notice any difference tbh its not worth the extra hassle

I've got a 250hp+ 1Z, might do it behind the passenger door in front of the wheel. I'll see what tubing comes up at the time 2.75/3" is what i'd like!
