Title: Excessive piston protrusion?
Post by: dash cunning on April 12, 2010, 02:01:38 pm
I used a straightedge and feelers to check my piston protrusion and it's right at .63 in. ( if i remember correctly) or whatever the very last size is on a 3 notch gasket in the bentley. I can kinda get .64 under and i can't get .65 under. I'm worried that this is too much. can anyone shed some light on this? is this not a good way to measure? thanks.

feeler gauges are the perfect way to go.
According to the Bentley:

Mechanical Engines:
- 1 notch - 0.67-0.80mm
- 2 notch - 0.81-0.90mm
- 3 notch - 0.91-1.02mm

Hydraulic Engines:
- 1 notch - 0.66-0.86mm
- 2 notch - 0.87-0.90mm
- 3 notch - 0.91-1.02mm

Edit: I own page 4 and it looks like you should be 1 notch.  :D

you measured in inches. doh

wait, over half an inch???

i remeasured and it's .040in on the dot. or 1.02mm but it seemed as if i could almost push .041 in. Is this ok for a 3 notch? i'mma be running 1 .6 n/a with a stock turbo diesel setup. thanks guys.

According to the FAQ, I believe this is on the upper edge of OK:
