Title: Part Number Needed - Drive Plate Bolts
Post by: Mikeyworks on July 06, 2004, 04:46:45 am
Hey gang,

I got the damaged crank out last night...after over a week of delay due to Daddy Duty...and I am listing the parts I will need to buy to put this thing back together.

Among them are the drive plate bolts. I have been told that they are Torque-to-yield bolts. Is that true?  Regardless, one of them got a little chewed up upon removal...so, does anyone know the part number for these?   ETKA didn't list anything that I could find.

Other than the standard seals, bearings, etc. can anyone think of any other bolts or parts I need to replace while I am in there?

Thanks

Mikey

The newer style bolts (with flanged head) are P/N N 902 061 03.

The torque procedure for the flanged head bolts is 25lb-ft plus 90 degrees IIRC.

The earlier style bolts without flanged heads have a straight torque value (in the neighbourhood of 70lb-ft maybe??)

New bolts should come with blue threadlocking compound appllied - if they do not, use some.  Also clean the oil out of the threads on the end of the crank with a suitable solvent.

Drew,

You don't happen to have a picture or other visualization of the different bolts do you?  I stink at trying to picture things like this in my head.

Both bolts have very shallow heads, but the new style has a washer integrated into the head, the old style does not.  Does that help?

Drew,

Here's one that I pulled off my engine...

That's the flanged one - newer style.

Check the Bentley to be sure, but the torque spec is 25lb-ft plus 90 degrees, and the replacements must have threadlocking compound applied.

The correct terminology may be "shouldered" rather than flanged - darned if I know... :)

Drew,

Thanks again for the assistance... I am ordering some from Impex when I order the rest of my parts...likely this afternoon.
