No one ever told me I could not - So - I have used my 90 jetta as a truck for years.
I use standard struts on the rear - but I have to use Old - 1984 Audi 4000 springs to carry the wieght -
They are taller than the standard springs - but I need to replace them - they are tired -
I normally run with 500 to 1000 lbs extra - trunk rack and all.
Tail hieght is not an issue for me - but wieght carrying is! It looks like a dragster anyway. 195/70-14 rear - 195/60-14 front
Any ideas? - on springs/ struts to look over. I would consider a taller strut with just replacing the springs - but they are 20 years + old now - where the devil would I find them?
I tried over the weekend - just compressing an A2 front spring - but it was lower than the old Audi's.
Thanks - just found you! - Centurion

I found enough info in various places to answer the ?
plus - I have to visit the junkyard to do a parts fitting.
The glass slipper has to fit correctly!

What did you pick, C?
Rear springs from an Audi 5000 Wagon would seem a good choice to me.

Audi 5G it may be - problem around here is finding the parts.
I am looking for something in the American Heavy metal side to stick under it. at least I can find them in the junk yard. The old stuff around here only lasts one winter - then crushed in the spring.
Because I never unload till the end of the season - rough ride is not an issue. The springs just need to hold the body up - and the towers just need to keep the springs from blowing through the hole.
I read all I could off the H&R springs and others.
Reading off the vehicle info - I can load it to 1606 lbs.[ and probalby have overloaded it many times.]
The way the load is in the car - It cantelevers off the rear end and raises the front by and inch or so when fully loaded, Including myself and Sweetie. [400 watts of light needs re - aiming when I change the load.- Read this as my early Moose warning system. They have white hair on them with this much light at night. Keeps you from gettin killed]
Still the availble race/ heavy duty spring packages - leave me with having to create pedistals for them to sit on - to raise the rear end - so it doesn't look like a dog draggin its hinny - trying to lose a clingon.
I am sure though that a 400 lb/in spring might fix the issue. maybe 450.
Still lookin.
Thank you. C

Well - as of last week - I pulled a set of A5000 springs off a wrecked sedan - took the topmounts as well - Iused new A2 shocks and compressed the A5 springs with the A5 topmount and capped it with a A2 top mount and rubber to fit the A2 tower.
When finished you have to orientate the 3 bolt horn [top mount] so that the one hole points at the tire - then minigrind the two others - at 180 degrees from each other - so they will fit into the tower area.
Add bolts and your are done.
I can drop all my stuff in it and it only drops to 67 cm - fender to ground - BTW - 195/70/r14's rear.
I was at 62 cm - with a load - and the tires sometimes rubbed.
It is not a rally look - just level - and it runs quick! 110 on the hiway - no bunny hopping - no rough ride -
Cheers - C
