Title: Spring Rates
Post by: 8v-of-fury on March 28, 2010, 03:31:20 pm
Is there a difference in spring rates required between gas and diesel mk1's? I mean the engines are pretty much identical with regards to fuel systems.. should weigh within 30-40 lbs of each other no?

I think I may have answered my own question.. however, it still stands. Is there a difference?

the only difference comes into play with gti's and cabbies.  I think the spring rates have to do with
1.  the gti is much faster, and needs a stiffer spring, cabbies are heavier, needs a stiffer spring
2.  I'm not really sure.  part numbers are the same for all mk1's except the gti's and cabbies.

the diesel is the low man on the totem pole.  i would think anything suitable for any mk1 is good enough for any mk1 diesel

IIRC I've heard it mentioned that the German built cars had slightly stiffer springs..   But I could have been smoking crack too...
