Title: Quick flywheel question.
Post by: Assnolax on March 27, 2010, 06:00:05 pm
Just got in my new to me AAZ.  Before I can mount it to the engine stand for cleaning I'd need to pull the flywheel.  I just yank it off or should I mark somewhere?  I have a bentley for my diesel vanagon but nothing for the AAZ.

I'm going to need to fit a pilot bearing right? 1.6 one okay or what to grab?

Thank you, expect plenty of confusing posts in the days to come.  :)
Take care you all.

1.6 to 1.9td in a 1982 vanagon here. Just shoving in the engine mostly as is. I dont care if it blows up in 5k miles I just want it moving right now.

If it's the original diesel flywheel it will have an arrow shaped notch on it. The flywheel only goes on one way. If it's got the notch or even a punched groove it will be fine to remove.

Great so I can just yank it off and when I want to refit my 1.6NA flywheel on it will just bolt up only 1 way, the correct way?

If so I'm yanking that sucker right now.

Is the 1.9 flywheel the backwards type? I mean, does the clutch plate bolt to the crank or does the flywheel bolt to the crank? Because you may want to check that whatever trans your using has an input shaft that can match up to the pressure plate. I think the earlier 020 trans had smaller splined shafts than the 1.9 trans'.

It's the backwards type I think but I'm going to swap it into a vanagon and use the vanagon setup for clutch/flywheel/pressureplate/trans.

Why I thought I need to fit a pilot bearing.

Will take a picture and have it up in a few minutes.

Here is the one on the new engine I hope to swap in.

Thanks! =]

EDIT  Sorry for the HUGE pictures... I thought I set camera to make them smaller... This might take me a while to figure out technology isnt my strong suit.
