Title: mk2 16'' tire size
Post by: hustonr123 on February 22, 2010, 05:30:19 pm
I bought some rims that had 205/55/16 tires on them.    The tires didnt look to big untill I put them on my car. They rub hitting bumps and turning real sharp.  Was wondering if somebody can tell me what size fits good on a mk2 jetta at stock height.

probably a 205/40/16 or a 205/45/16.

im running 205/40/17's on my car, and they rub too, but im lowered, so you shouldnt rub.

Use a tool like this:

Try to find a size close to stock?

Hi, I ran 205/50/16 tyres and they rubbed on the front when trying to put full lock on the steering when parking etc and the rears rubbed when I cornered hard or hit a bump fast.

I've posted a thread asking if anyone knew if 205/45/16 was okay.....I think 205/40/15 is too small, you'd lose too much top speed and the ride would be terrible -the roads around where I live aren't great.

I ended up fitting 195/45-16 on my 16" inch rims. Fits perfect and the gearing etc is virtually identical.

Roll the fenders.

Kudagra  : Roll the fenders.

Do you just roll the lip up, or do you deform the actual fender, that is try to force the fender out and/or up?  I am going to roll mine I think, and I was wondering if I could put enough force on them to force (bend) them outward a little, or if I would just screw them up.  I would be using a fender roller tool that bolts to the hub, and is adjustable for angle of the roller, and height and angle from the hub.

Also, do you guys find that you can deform the plastic flares when you roll them, or do you strip the plastic?  If you roll them without the flares, is there a way to reshape the platic so that I can put it back on afterwards?  I'm concerned that as the lip rulls up into the fenderwell, the flare will lift up and away from the fender on the outside.  Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks

That would referred to as pulling the fenders and I would not want to experiment with my own car. It shouldn't be too expensive to have a panel beater take care of it for you. If you do experiment with your car start on the front, at least the front fenders are bolt on!
