Title: 1.6 verses 1.9 Camshaft
Post by: ein bora on February 16, 2010, 10:00:39 am
Is the 1.6 non turbo cam the same as the one in a 1.9 IDI?? Just wondering as I have one and I'll keep it if it'll interchange.

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I believe smokey eddy used his original 1.6td cam in his 1.9 prothe head.. and from what I have read the 1.6td and 1.6n/a are identical.. so all three must be the same..

maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in.. ;)

there are subtle differences between the cams, but not enough to affect fitment or performance.
I think it had to do with changes in emissions standards.

the n/a and td 1.6 cams have a profile thats very close to the same. 1.9 cams have less lift.

Here were my findings on the SB idi turbo diesel cams, or follow the links back.  ;)

might save the 1.6d shaft for the 1Y as i imagine it's a little less strict for emissions purposes!
