The block in your link sure is purrdy ;)

Thats a good colour for a block IMO. I would do it that colour if I were painting mine.

John Deere green would look stellar as well.

John Deere green might be close. Later blocks are black. Oil pan and valve cover is always black.

My block is green, I'd guess it's original. I can barely see the block (too dirty) except were the coolant runs down the back of the block and washes it ::).

*Looks again...* Holy Monks! That is a gasser head!  :o What heresy is this?! >:(

All that gasser stuff is JUST FOR MOK UP. Its used to judge clearance of hood, firewall and shift linkage.
Yes its a getto strap, what else would I use for quick checks. The strap is holding up the intake. The pump is mounted to the engine mount plate and yes the block is a gasser one too  :-X.
I don't have another diesel block to use for said clearance's.

yes sir. found it at checkers auto parts. also dont worry i cleaned up all bolt holes/ sealing surfaces of paint.

When I paint a block, I run a short bolt and a washer down tight into each bolt-hole, and use blue painter's tape to mask off the sealing surfaces.

I also have a spare oil pan that's four different colours, since I put that on to protect that sealing surface. :D

what paint color did you end up using, and is it available as a spray can, like at an auto parts store?

looks great!

Anyone know where I can buy Caterpillar Yellow paint? The guy I'm fixing the Dasher up for is a Caterpillar nut... I think it'd be fun to work up his engine in that colour and not tell him. :p

edit: Be looking specifically for "Old" yellow, or caterpillar colour code C106A, I think.

it's dupicolor engine enamel spraypaint. color is detroit diesel alpine green.

also i have a pad i can put on my dye grinder to take the paint of all the surfaces and it's rubber so it doesn't take off any of the metal.
