Article I stumbled across:

im not a smoker, but this is misleading.

which would most people prefer, to be locked inside an airtight room for 30 minutes while smoking 3 cigarettes in a row, or to be locked inside that same airtight room for 30 minutes while a diesel, or gas engine, hell ANY engine idles next to you.

particulates be damned, ill chose the cigarettes.

Well, on a purely health issue, you might be right, because of the CO from the engine might kill you.  But I still think I might choose the car.

i think if anything, that short article just illustrates that the old "diesels are dirty and wreck the environment!" mentality is all but wives tales at this point. when cigarettes have a greater particulate contribution to the atmosphere than a diesel engine, its time to start looking for other excuses why you're not driving a diesel.

wouldn't it have been nice if the american auto makers would have just left the diesel market alone?!?!
