i found this picture in turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes. it says it raised power from 50 to 75. but thats a pretty larger turbo, and a real purdy intake, i would think it could do more than that. discuss freely

I want one......but that air filter is in a goofy spot, right were the all the hot air flows :-\
-
that is dope, i want one too :P
i bet it added plenty lag tho

Is that a vacuum cleaner hose?

Doesn't look like it was fitted with a TD pump, which might explain why such a monster turbo only netted such a small increase...

I doubt you'd even get that much gain without a LDAish device. Spearco used something that hooked to or went in place of the fuel screw to increase fuel with boost so it doesn't have to look like a spaceship......
The ecodiesel didn't have the LDA and it only gained 6hp with the turbo.......I guess for the one in the pic if a guy set it to smoke preboost then you'd get more power on boost.

Isn't that book awesome... the part about the 83 F1 Renault 1.5l making 800hp with two turbos is inspiring. also the tractor pulling part is crazy. 250psi man. pressure comin out of 4 turbos for TWO minutes!
Could ya post a pic of that guy on his tractor at the start of the tractor pulling section? That dudes awesome!

There was a guy here with the whole spearco setup on a 1.5D pickup. He left the state though.

no an lda does not add any fuel or power, it limits fueling at low or no boost while allowing full fueling at full boost. a 9mm na pump can put out the same as a 9mm td pump (assuming they have the same cam plate) there is a guy on youtube making almost 170hp with out an lda.

yeah, but wouldn't that allow you to run more boost fuel without melting stuff at low boost?
Which would be better an LDA or the Spearco and how different are they really? One limtis low boost and one enriches high boost right?
-
I doubt there's any diff between the two, the spearco works like it adjusts the fuel screw on the fly.

But to convert a NA pump to TD you gotta remove the spot pin inside the pump and then the LDA's "movable stop" takes it's place, if the max fuel position of the LDA pin was the same as the NA pin there'd be no point in removing it.
But yeah I see what you mean about the LDA not adding power, it just seems to me like if that turbo setup was actually in production they would have an LDA of some sort to limit the smoke off boost.
BTW, I halfways converted a NA pump to TD by cutting the stop pin out but I never installed the LDA. I've been driving it for half a year like that with no problems other than massive smoke if I turn the screw in too much ;D.

looks like a generic radiator hose you can get them at any parts place.

my old turbo N/A put down at least 100 HP as it would leave my buddies and thier mk2 GTI's in the dust.
it smoked like a train off boost, and I had to be careful with my right foot to keep the EGT's from rocketing past 1600*
but it certainly made lots of power(night and day from when it was N/A)
it was too bad it died from ring failure, I really liked it....

Trev0rbr:
What kind of pump are you the new owner of? I tried to ask powered by spearco, as he is the one that posted the pictures of it within this thread. There is no label or explanation of the assembly. Thanks.
