I was wondering if there are any Protential problems with the 1.9TD motor, i heard somthing about the crank but not sure.

crank nose failure.
and that throws the timing belt
and then some (most) of your valves get bent.
if its not too bad, you can put a new head on it and be good, but at worst, you will be doing a whole new engine.
might wanna give us some symptoms of the car before you just think something is wrong.
the difference between an alright mechanic, and a GREAT mechanic, is the ability to diagnose problems.

Well theres a little wobble in the pullys at the bottom of the engine,were the crank is, I heard a TDi crank would fix this, or somthing TDi anyways.

TDi crank nose conversion. gotta take the crank out of the car, or take it to andrew, or tyler.. i cant remember who does the in car crank conversion.
if the crank pulley is wobbling, you need to get it fixed right away.

does the 1.9D engine suffers this as well?
i heard that this only happens when you mess with the bolt for some work related,if is still unmolested from factory it will work ok...
all did this or there are some years to check?

Whoa...hold on. Just because the vibration damper is wobbling, doesn't necessarily mean that the crank nose has failed. Often just the damper is not running true. Yes, crank sprocket (pulley) failure is very common on the AAZ 1.9TD. If this car is new to you, I highly recommend you remove and inspect the crankshaft sprocket for the timing belt. If it is failing, then yes you will need to do the TDi sprocket conversion. If it is in good shape and re-assembled with a new bolt torqued properly, there are two things that can be done to prevent failure. Check the damper carefully when you have it off. They are notorious for not running true and there is an updated version available which is better in my experience anyway. The other important preventative measure is installing a one way clutch pulley on the alternator.
FWIW, I have had two AAZs with stock crank sprockets which I have put over 180,000 kms on. I always inspect the crank sprocket when I change the timing belt and have done the above preventative measures and haven't had a problem so far. That said, if you want to have the TDi sprocket conversion done right off the bat that's ok too. I think Andy2 and libbybapa do it in car for pretty reasonable prices. They are in Ontario and Arizona respectively though which is a bit far from NS ;) Also great idea to search this topic...loads of info out there.

I asked him about the crank pulley, he said it wasn't wobbling and didn't want to spend the extra money for me to check it. I confirmed that it wasn't wobbling. A couple hundred kms later and there went his crank gear.

Good point. Like I said, you always want to check the crank sprocket when the timing belt is off. Only one extra bolt!
Good to know that Giles also does the in car TDi sprocket upgrade. I would also be interested in the cost?
