I recently installed my rebuilt pump, timed it correctly and all runs good except for the timing advance. Before when pulled I would get an increase in rpm as it should and no problem starting in the colder weather. Now I don't notice any increase and also I'm having difficulty starting the thing in the cold. Up here in Canada it's cold right now, and with new glow's that I've checked and are working - what comes to mind is the advance feature as there is no significant increase in the rpm's. Is there an adjustment on this?? 94 - 1.9 IDI

Take a look where it feeds through to at the back of the pump and make sure it's moving the lever it's attached to. It's finicky to get on right and sometimes it slips out of the hole.

Giles did the pump. I checked and double checked the lever and cable and it moves correctly and freely. Taking a closer look at it today - I don't think there is an adjustment. Something is out of wack and I'm not sure what the next step is as in this weather I'm not always able to plug the car in in order to get it to start, and I don't want to use any spray starter fuilds.

Should be a couple of limiter screws. Make sure the the rpm increase side isn't limiting max cold start rpm. It's above the timing advance lever.

Could it be as simple as it not being tight enough to move the lever?

Giles likes to be "bothered"
Your fast idle is controlled by the vacuum pod on the top of your pump. Is that line properly hooked up? Is it getting vacuum?

Hi Tyler - yes I already thought of that too. When I disconnect the hose I lose rpm's, so I'm assuming that the vacuum pod is working correctly.

Ok in that case you just need to adjust the studs that the arm from the vacuum pod attaches to. There are 2 of them, one is idle and the other is fast idle.
Pulling out the cold start knob in the car will have zero effect on RPM

Okay thanks, if and when it warms up a bit today I'll try that.

Also - thanks for the info on the pump. I'll adjust the rpm's and that should work.
The power increase on this pump is like night and day. The boost just flies up on the gauge. It's hard not to want to go in the 30 plus range. What's a safe range to be in, I think Giles said something like 25 or so?
I also have a exhaust temp gauge - when I go up that high, of coarse it starts getting on the hot side.
