I'm sure I read on here about someone wanting to attempt an ECU controlled IDI?
Well after some research I found the Peugeot 406 2.1 TD is an IDI, ecu controlled - http://www.dieselcar.com/pdf-files/articles/tests/peugeot/111-gp-406-glx-2p1-td.pdf
scroll down to P9.
Maybe, just maybe, someone could use a system from one of these cars (or possibly a Citroen Xantia or XM, and Peugeot 605).
As far as I know they do not use a VNT
There is one being broke for spares here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-406-2-1-T-DIES1997-2-0lt-PARTS-AVAILABLE_W0QQitemZ4586545307QQcategoryZ10406QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Didn't realise I hadn't added my location, i'm in the UK.
I guess France will be the best/easiest/plentiful source of these cars but as you can see from the article date, its the best part of 10 years they've been here.
Let me know if I can help.

Hey, thanks for sharing that article! :D
I'm really glad I read it because the Honda diesel has been getting rave reviews from what I've read and my wife has been dropping hints that she'd like to upgrade her 2002 Golf TDi when the Honda arrives in America next year.
I've forwarded the article to her...hoping she'll like her VW better after reading how mediocre the Honda did in side-by-side comparisons.

Do you mean the Honda in that specific article? If so, that is an old Rover engine from about 10 years ago.
The new one is here - http://www.dieselcar.com/pdf-files/articles/tests/honda/187-ft-accord2p2%20i-ctdi.pdf
And that diesel does seem to get pretty good reviews
If i'm being stupid and you're trying to trick her then sorry!

Oh yeah, that's the car I was thinking of... :D
And I dutifully forwarded it to her...
