Title: new here - crank but no start IDI
Post by: iHasaBucket on January 17, 2010, 12:53:30 pm
the motor was rebuilt ~60k ago so glow plugs were replaced. I just had the alternator rebuilt and installed it yesterday, now the car wont start. i charged up the battery, swapped in another battery (700amp @ 0 deg., 875amp @ 35 deg.) and still no start. it's about 25 out right now and i cycled the plugs a couple times to no avail. any suggestions?

Check that your glow plugs are getting power:

glow plugs are getting power. i just picked up a magnetic pan heater...that doesnt help yet. also got a 12oz bottle of NAPA diesel conditioner w/ anti gel but havent put that in because i have ~4 gallons in the tank and it doesnt specify amounts on the bottle.

no, make sure that the plugs themselves are working, not just that they are getting power. just because there is power to them does not mean they are getting hot.

also check the shut off solenoid on your fuel pump. is any smoke coming out the tail pipe when cranking?

glow plugs are getting power.

How many volts did you measure at the glow plug buss bar?
