"Called the EcoRacer, the concept has been built to prove that you really can have the best of both worlds. "
very cool, thats the concept behind my Rabbit. hopefully we'll see these ecoracers over here in north america... i dont like the styling but i'd still consider one, have to test drive it at least and that would make the decision for me. very cool concept... glad to see VW coming around bit by bit.
(VW of Canada is seperating itself from VWoA... very good news for us Canadian VW enthusiasts)

Yeah, it is a cool idea. Too bad it's just the wet dream of someone at VAG's styling lab. From Automobile Magazine (http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/tokyo/0511_volkswagen_ecoracer/):
"Dream on, VW fans, there are no production plans."
Just goes to show you what happens when the bean counters rule the world. Imagine if Porsche or BMW were run like that. We'd still be driving 912's...

Yeah, and if it did make it into production:
A. We would never see it in the United States
B. The styling would have changed so much that it would look like a honda. (ahem, mk5 anyone?)
Otherwise, yes, I'd take two of those please, one in yellow and one in black. :)

Yeah, and if it did make it into production:
A. We would never see it in the United States
And if we did, just like everything else that's available with nice turbo diesel engines everywhere else but here, they'd only import the gas version to the US I bet....
-
....if it did make it here, you guys could probably get the diesel versions imported from canada.... so not all bad.
also, the fuel market is different now than it has in the past, i think we are more economy-minded than ever with the latest rash of price-increases... so you never know.

The problem from what I understand here in the US is the emissons. That is one major factor that is holding back passenger diesels. Not to mention its smoke pumping, loud runing, no power reputation from the past. Which we all know is no longer an issue.
I also read some where on that VW that it has 16 valves. :D
