Title: Really bad vibration and shaking
Post by: Justin on October 27, 2005, 05:35:07 am
Hey guys i recently got the 4 door hatch back on the road since the caddy got hit and i drove it for a while everything was fine, but then one day it started shaking real bad if i got it above 57 mph. I thought that it was the rear shocks since they were pretty bad. so i put on a good used pair that i had and it helped control the car when it was shaking but the problem is still there, it is also eating up these shocks, within a week they are already getting bad due to the violent shaking. and keeping it at 55 in a 70 is not that cool

i suspect something with alignment but am not sure, it does pull to the left a little bit and nothing seems to be loose (i have to double check though)

Thanks in advance
Justin

Have you checked the tires?  I had a subaru with violent shaking (only at lower speeds though).  Turned out it was because the tires were permanently flat from sitting with only 5 or 10psi in them for a year or so.  Even after I pumped them back up they were no good.  If a tread started separating it could also cause that.

Could also be something else in the wheels thats badly out of balance -- since you don't have rear axles or driveshaft I'm having a hard time figuring what, but that's what it sounds like.

i vote for a tyre related problem. i also once has a subaru with a shaking problem. turns out the jerks at the tire shop managed to spill a few weights in the tyre before they mounted and (somehow) balanced them.

well i figured out the main shaking problem, i had a flat spot on the front right tire, looked like it was about to blow, I could see the tread seperating from the tire and could see the cords inside

now it doesnt shake until i get to 65 mph. I suspect alignment and worn out shocks out back

thanks for the help and that would suck to have weights in your tire. My trucks winter tires have a peple in one tire and its annoying
