Title: 1.6lTD piston cooling oil jet R&R
Post by: fspGTD on October 25, 2005, 08:43:25 pm
What size torx bits hold the piston cooling oil jets on a 1.6lTD?  I tried a T20 but it felt a little bit loose.  But then a T25 was too big!

Also, there is a reference in Bentley to using some sort of special VW sealant on the oil jet retaining bolt threads.  Is this equivalent to a common threadlocker compound, like loc-tite 242 / blue (medium strength) or 271 / red (high strength)?

Also, what is the tightening torque for them?  I couldn't find this spec in any of the literature I have.

thanks much.

I found the torx bit kind of loose as well, it does work though. The tightening torque is 89in/lb. The VW sealant is just medium strength threadlocker, blue loctite is fine.

Well I successfully managed to get all the oil squirters out, but not without a little drama! :?  After stripping the head of one of the bolts with a T20 bit, I drilled it out with a special foot-long drill bit and extracted it from underneath without having to drop the crank.  (Phew!)

For the record... T25 is the correct bit size for these bolts.  (The too-large bit that I originally thought was a T25 was actually a T30.)
