Title: Jetta Odometer Digits?
Post by: flash319 on October 23, 2005, 05:28:42 pm
Can anyone tell me how many digits are on a 98 Jetta GL odometer?  I bought it and the place said that VW's only use 5 digits and that my car has 230 000 km.  It shows 30 000.  I had an 86 golf and I think it was the same.  This one is digital and it looks like there is another digit there.  Maybe it has been tampered with???

A3 jetta and golf odometers have 6 digits but, for some reason, they roll over at 300000km. I would guess that your car has 330000km on it.

Flash-

There are definitely 6 digits on your odometer. I have a 97 Jetta and the odometer went back to zero at 300,000KM. So like QuickTD says your car would have 330,000KM on it. Looks to me like the dealer? you bought it from owes you an explanation at the very least.

does the odometer have "total" displayed in the top left? if not, it's rolled over 300,000.  I've seen afew posts on vortex, they had the "total" disappear when it rolled over.
