Title: Coolant Distribution pipe question
Post by: Peter on January 04, 2010, 12:47:55 pm
the pipe is very rusty and needs replacement..Does anybody know where to purchase the "coolant metal distribution pipe" for a 1986 Turbo with an "oil cooler"...after looking at 5 or more part sites, the only ones available are for cars that do not have the oil cooler...

I have seen a couple go in the for sale section. I think that this guy might have them   http://vwdieselparts.com/ (http://vwdieselparts.com/)   I think his name is Jack. I also saw someone on here just respond to this question and it said something like egermanautoparts....I don't know that person/site, or if it is even a correct name, but if you look you may find it.

..the pipe for a car "with oil cooler" has a flattened out section (instead of round ) that fits between the starter and oil cooler..cars "without" the oil cooler  take the standard pipe that applys to most 1.6 motors, which seems to be the only part available at the moment..I am hopeing that I will not have to permanently remove the cooler...maybe a dealer part ??

hmm. pretty sure i noticed that actually, but never paid attention to it really. i have a normal one right now. and it clears the oil cooler. its the stock one off my first 1.5, the flat one is still on my TD motor. so, yea, your right.

..it really gets confusing when the "same part #" comes up with 3 different styles..visual inspection is a must

wow. thats another one of VWs finer ideas. 1 part number for 3 different parts. that are OBVIOUSLY different. the weirdest one ive seen was one that had 2 heater hose connections pointing towards the firewall instead of one.
