Title: 96 Jetta trunk lock
Post by: phantom59 on December 28, 2009, 04:30:31 pm
Can I buy the pot metal C shaped part of the trunk latch? It is the hinged part that the key button rotates to pull the linkage to the latch.

The dealer most likely has it, or a junkyard car

It is allmost impossible to find a VW in a junk yard around here and I hate to go the dealer route since they will most likely want to sell me the hole lock assembely for $7,582 plus shipping and handling.

Does anyone have a diagram of the lock mech. so I can identify the part for the guy at VW? oterwise I am going to have to make a trip to show him then another one to pick it up. That is if I can get the part I need without buying the whole lock assembly.

Does this mean I can get the information from Alldata?

Alldata shows a diagram under trunk lock cylinder, but does not identify part numbers in relation to illustration numbers. The part number I gave you is from Alldata's labor guide that we use here at the shop and is for estimation purposes only. Probably the best way to get all the info you need is to have your local VW dealership fax you a parts breakdown sheet and then you can simply call them with the item numer for avalibility and price. They will most likley even take a credit card payment over the phone in the event that they have to special order it. Special order means pay in advance. Have your VIN ready. Hope this helps.
