Just got hold of some new NA10X injectors. I believe they were for 1.5 but I want to use them in my 1.6 1991 NA Jetta. Anything special I need to do? Different pop pressure? timing? thanks if anyone knows.
-
I think but am not sure that the 1.5 had a higher pop pressure, but I think you can use those nozzles as they should be the same. As long as you set it to 155bar I would think it should be fine. I am sure andrew or saurkraut or someone on here will have a difinative answer.
-
I thought it was supposed to be 130 or 135 BAR for the non-turbo, normal aspirated like mine? I've never checked them, but am contemplating building or buying a pop tester to check all my old injectors.
-
This is something I have only read about so take it as such.
I thought the 1.5 early pumps were a little different and the injectors opened at 170-180 bar? Maybe I am off on that. I know the 1.6 turbos were 155 and the n/a s are 130. I think that they all took the same nozzles so as long as the breaking pressures are correct for your engine you should be fine.
I thought the 91 was an eco. Eco had a turbo just not a true turbo pump. I don't know what the eco had for injectors though.

And let's not forget that Bosch lists TWO different numbers for NA 1.6L VW diesels. :)
I haven't been able to stay on hold long enough on the Bosch tech line to ask them why.
I put A2 injectors in my A2 motor/A1 pump caddy, wrong, right? Nobody knows.
But I'd like to.

I've got an older pump off a rabbit, because it would work and the 91 stock pump wouldn't. I have'nt checked the pump timing, but probably next weekend will have some time, then I'll put it together with the 10x injectors and we'll see what happens. starter doesn't spin it like I'd like, but we'll see.
-
the injectors should have a number on the side somewhere "xxx bar". if they havent already been rebuilt and are in the right bodies, that will tell you more about what to time them at.
-
NA10X injectors fit 1.5 VW, and 2.4 VW in a Volvo.
-
just got them off ebay-they are remanufactured by bosch-say NA10X. Also some remanufactured that say NA11X. will try to pop test them if I can rig up an adaptor.
-
NA11X = 1.6 Turbo 85ish.
-
NA10X pop tested at around 2100 psi, the NA11X at around 2300 psi. the injectors I took out popped between 1900 and 2000(the two that worked, the other two dribbled too much to get pressure up to pop). I'm still trying to get my dial gauge working right to set the injection pump timing, but I'll shoot for about .95 mm and go with the NA10X injectors and see what happens.
-
turned out there were only 2 NA10X, rest were 11X, so I'm going to see about opening up a couple a shimming them down-hopefully this weekend
-
I am currently negotiating a 2.4 Turbo DIesel for my Volvo 240 Wagon. The current NA 2.4 uses NA 10X injectors, so I thought I would look up the 2.4 turbo injectors. NA40X. Never seen these before. FIgured they would be NA11Xs.
-
That's 144 and 158 BAR respectively, aren't the NA's supposed to be 130 or 135 BAR?
I'm sure it'll run but it has to be screwing with the timing.
-
My Bentley's says the ME engine injectors should be between 130 and 138 bar. what's the conversion between bar and psi? I've never had to deal with it before I started playing with these injectors. Maybe I can detune the NA11X injectors with different washers-since I have several that are too high a pop pressure for my use. any idea what the timing problems would be with the higher pop pressure? Would car even start/run? it's been too cold to do much outside where the car sits so I'm brainstorming ideas.
-
there is actually an advantage to running higher pop pressure injectors. they atomize fuel better and give you better power and mileage. early 1.5 engines called for 1.15 mm of advance. ive heard that they had 180 bar injectors.
-
interesting-I was testing some old injectors that I had picked up from something, and they popped at around 2500 psi-much higher than the others I was testing-maybe they were from an old 1.5 dasher engine I'd swapped heads on.

1 bar = 14.5037738 pounds per square inch
I imagine one would run, mine will start and run anywhere from .85mm to 1.20, and there isn't a screaming difference between any of them either, go figure. Seems to me higher pressure and more timing would be better, but what do I know. I guess the theory is the higher they pop, the longer it takes to reach that pressure when in use, delaying the injection even and therefore timing is off. Seems like you ought to be able to use bout any injector is you could come up with some math to get a good timing figure, or trial and error it.
