Title: "T" hose coolant leak
Post by: ozzie on December 04, 2009, 10:04:47 pm
About 5 months ago i replaced a leaky coolant hose on my 85 TD jetta.  it was a hose that has a "T" in it - it runs from the head down to the water pump and splits and goes to the oil cooler i think.  the hose is leaking at the "T", just like the last one.

are there solutions to this other than buying a very expensive hose that may or may not work? i'm all ears!

thanks
Oz

If your new hose failed that quickly you may have a leaky oil cooler, leaking oil into the coolant and eating yor hoses. Not an uncommon problem.

Thanks Wayland, I'll check it out.  i believe i have read that you can just remove the oil cooler  - might be a thought for me.

If that's not it I might try sweating a copper 3 way or something like that.  the 3 way hose seems vulnerable to me

thanks

That works too. I made a copper replacement for the other 3-way hose that goes to the water pump, oil cooler an heater return. It is NLA afaik, but my home made one has benn working fine for a couple of years.

"No Longer Available", and "as far as I know"
