What is a good tranny other than the stock one that comes with the Canadian version 1.9TD?
Picked-up an '97 Jetta 1.9TD last week as a doner car and
the tranny skips in reverse. I have seen this before on that particular model and was wondering what would be an ideal replacement since I will be tearing down and building back up anyways for a transplant into my soon to be ( or wannabe  ) GTX / GTD.
Someone from another site suggested an 020 but it seems that there are a couple versions of 020's. Or maybe just have the stock tranny rebuilt. I do have an aquantance that is a tech. in an tranny shop that takes jobs on the side.
Thanks for good help as usual

If you can get hold of a 4T or FF/FG/FH, those have the longest gears of all 020's.

our North American versions of these code won't fit into A2 (casting bosses, only in A1 config)

I like the ASF / ACN (gas trannies) for A2 - 1.9 IDI cruising (tall ratio)
