For my '86 Jetta ...Is it possible to use a starter from a TDI together with an adapter from http://www.westyventures.com/images/tdistarteradaptor.jpg (http://www.westyventures.com/images/tdistarteradaptor.jpg) or http://westyventures.com/images/adaptor7.JPG (http://westyventures.com/images/adaptor7.JPG) ....if so, the starter would be self supporting and provide more torque/speed for turning over my "tired" motor

I read somewhere the VR6 auto starter can be used with the TDI engine-trans. I'll have to try mounting a TDI starter on one of my 020 trans-engines.

You might need to use the TDI front motor mount support as well (the one that the starter bolts through). I don't know though.

obviously the links I gave above have to do with a vanagon..I thought I would ask the question since I don't have any "starters" to compare..I was hopeing someone had already looked into the possibilty of useing another type of starter..

..would it be possible if you could explain why the starter for an Automatic tranny will work as oppossed to a starter designed for the manual shift that will "not" work ..from other cars I have, there is no visible difference between the AT & Manual, except that one will draw more current then the other
