Title: What's an '86 diesel golf worth??
Post by: rabbitman on November 13, 2009, 02:02:56 am
I found a diesel golf and since there's very few around here (read none ::)) I thought I should get it.......BUT.

In the add it says it got a new water pump and t-stat and then 1 mile from the shop the timing belt "burned". Since then the battery and stereo were stolen out of it as it sat at the shop.

The add doesn't say how bad the head is but I assume the valves had a rough time.....this is a hydro head isn't it?

The guy is asking $420 and says the "interior is nice", does that mean the exterior is junk since he didn't mention it? I can't just go look at it though since I'm a couple hundred miles away.
Oh yeah, it lives in a ocean town so I wonder if it's rusty?

What do yall think of it? :D

86 was the changeover year, so it could be hydro or solid lifter. It seems like for $420 you probably can't go wrong, but I'd still go look at it before committing.

You can bet on a head job with the belt gone. If the car's in good shape, it's still cheap.
