has anyone ever put a check valve or something in the fuel line to prevent it from losing its prime?

i meant like a one way valve.

IIRC the check valve is way down the fuel line by the water separator. Are you sure its not a soft rubber feed line? Once they go soft, they let in air, especially around the fuel filter.

im not having problems, i was just wondering because i am going gas to diesel and wanted to know if i could do that.

just keep your stock in tank pump. that will keep you primed all the time. they dont put out much pressure, just about enough to help out the injection pump.

thats the problem, my pump died and i am too cheap to buy a new one, plus i ended up getting a engine and trans for free.

Pull your tank pump and covert it to straight pick-up. You don't need a lift pump on this engine. I added an electronic lift pump (4 - 5 psi) and it worked for a while until something cause it to block enough flow.. so now my converted caravan has just the IP.

you can just leave the pump there if you dont feel like taking it out. just get a primer bulb from an outboard fuel line and plumb it up. my grnadpa has been running one on the jimmy in his boat for years. that thing gets air in the fuel lines like twice a week it seems, and always needs a reprime...
