Title: A1 pump lever question
Post by: wolf_walker on November 07, 2009, 03:40:53 pm
I just re-sealed my first pump, and was hoping to get an answer to a question I've always had.
I didn't, so I'll ask.
What is the purpose of the double spring setup and that 2nd small lever under the actual
throttle lever on the top of the pump?  I know this setup changed quite a few times,
but the shaft going into the pump is just a single piece that rotates, it looks like a single
bar bolted to the top with a return spring would have been sufficient.
What's the deal?

I've always wondered that too, and I've rebuilt pumps and it seems to me a guy could remove a spring and be fine as long as one had enough strength.

I think it has to do with sideloading the throttle bushing, or rather trying to prevent it to reduce wear.

Sideloading, never thought of that angle.  That would be a very German thing to do wouldn't it.
Hmm.
