Title: Oil in exhaust pipe
Post by: RustyCaddy on November 05, 2009, 10:46:00 pm
First, to be honest, this has to do with a Jetta TDI that is for sale but i think the issue would not be much different from a IDI turbo with a catalysic converter (like a ecodiesel or something).

It recently had a oil leaking turbo replaced.  With the new turbo on it is losing power and stalling.  There is some oil loss from the tailpipe. The owner thinks that the problem is that the catalytic converter is full of oil and the system is getting back pressured...all i need to do is drain the oil.  That is why he is selling it...hummm.

Does this happen?  i have been a NA guy and have not a clue.

Also, it has a little used veg system installed...hummm.  This make me wonder if there is more to the story, the seller hasn't owned the car long and doesn't know much about it.

Lastly, am i crazy to think about buying a non-runner...hummm maybe i know the answer to that already ;)

Any thoughts/wisdom are greatly appreciated.

hmmm......I suppose if the cat really was full and plugged it would die, but why wouldn't if just blow the oil out.....unless it's filled with veggy oil and has turned to goop. But then why would it be in the exhaust?

When it loses power does it help at all to floor it and or does it just bog down and die anyway?
