Title: Automatic in my 2001 Jetta lost forward gears need help
Post by: topless96 on October 26, 2009, 07:07:01 pm
i was driving along this morning hit the brakes to slow down a little and when I tried to accelerate the trans was like it was in neutral. Been getting TCM and glow plug code lately but tranny never slipped. Happened during 15 mile run to work. Reverse works OK but no forward at all. Any possibility it is brake light switch?

Ah, the 01M. A piece of utter junk. Methinks you will be investing in a new trans soon.

I have read of a malfunctioning break light switch tricking a tranny into staying in neutral... the idea being that the tranny disengages as you step on the brake.  Can't remember which particular years, etc.

TDIclub.com probably has the info you seek.
