Title: Can you use a lower spec engine as a base for higher output engine?
Post by: johnbuz on October 08, 2009, 04:32:10 am
Hi

I have a 1999 Seat Alhambra with a 110 BHp AFN  engine fitted, the engine is giving me trouble with excess mechanical noise, tried most things but I have not been able to shut the thing up. See my other post.

I have access to a 90 BHp 1Z engine from another Seat.

Both engines are of the 'fly by wire' type.

Would it be possible to transfer the gubbins across from the AFN to the 1Z to make a 110BHp engine? (Turbo, injectors, pump etc.)

you don't need to swap the pump over, all other parts you mentioned though

Just looked in your other thread - the n75 ticks loudly on the earlier tdis, try revving it then lifting off, with the bonnet see if it stops for a second then carries on.

edit - the n75 is the solenoid next to the timing belt, above the wheel arch!

Noise is continuous with the engine running, defo coming from the engine not bulkhead.

The pumps are different on the 1Z and AFN

As long as they are both 8 pin which they should be, you don't need to swap the pumps.

Can you post a sound clip of the noise? Also, can you hear the n75 clicking aswell at the same time?

I have a recording of the noise, but can't work out how you post sound attachments on this forum!
