Does anyone know of a forum where VW's and biodiesel are discussed together?

Vortex and fred's tdi have biofuel sections. I have been making and running 100% biodiesel in both a 1.6td and a Tdi for more then 4 years with no problems.

Mainly I'm curious about building a very small-scale rig, like 3-5 gallons every couple of weeks or so. Mainly so I can experiment and get used to the process. While I know I could probably hit that goal by repeatedly using the "Dr. Pepper Method", that would get old pretty quick. :)

A guy 2 hours away has been having success with it. The water test shows it works and its really clean.

...just a word of caution. Some of the information you will find on Journey2Forever is inaccurate or outdated. I would recomment starting here: www.biodieseltutorial.com or even this site first www.b100supply.com. Both sites are full of up to data useful information.

Glad to see interest in the biofuels. I am willing to help anyone learn and do classes sometimes to show how easy it really is. Before you committ to building a small reactor, first see how much oil you can get. Everyone I have helped started too small only to abandon that reactor for one that makes 30g batches. The work is the same 1g or 30g. The smallest reactor I built is 5g and the largest was 350g batch and one continuous model good for 100k gallons/year. It is all the same reaction. Latest project is building a Photobioreactor to grow Algae, from which I plan to make biodiesel?? hopefully.

There used to be a company in Guelph ( It might still be running) that made synthetic crude from biomass. The used waste feed corn, but with small adjustments it could run just about anything from dried wood chips to grass clippings.

The reason I'm choosing to do a small reactor is mainly cost. I simply cannot source the materials to build a larger reactor on my current budget. Plus, I also rent, so I really would not want to pack up and move a 30g reactor when it comes time to move. :P

Yea I hear you, not to mention that for a single person 30 gallons would last a long time, unless you were doing a ton of driving every day.

I've been making Biodiesel for about a year and a half in a processor made from an old 100lb propane tank. It cost me nothing to build, and makes 50 litres, which is perfect, because I can fill the tank of the car and have a little left over for my diesel motorcycle and generator. I would like to make a much bigger processor though, so I would only have to make a few batches a year.
