Title: Camshaft
Post by: aviologist on September 29, 2009, 04:54:53 pm
So I removed the valve cover on my 92 td and found several cam lobes to be a bit rough. Its seems the chrome is chipping at the apex of the lobes and I am wondering if there is a reason for this? And will a cam out of an NA work? Is the cam in the td the same as the na? Any help would be appreciated.

theres no chrome on the face of the cam. or on the lifters. its just hardened steel. pretty sure a n/a and t/d cams are the same, if they arent the same, they will interchange. yes, you can use a n/a cam. you will need new lifter shims tho.

I don't think you can swap in a mechanical lifter cam for a hydraulic lifter one.

nope, hydro and mech cams have a different base circle.

turbo vs N/A though are interchangeable.

I have found a good one from a Td that will work. I wonder if PO didn't change oil or used to light a grade to cause wear on the cam. The od reads 262xxx so it should last longer than that. Thanks for all the help.
