Post by: the caveman on September 24, 2009, 07:53:25 pm
Good ALH short block, was modified to fit into a mk3 , but will still fit a mk4. Pics to follow, $200 plus shipping [may part it if it needs to go far, or will deliver within a couple hundred kms].See below for pics and why so cheap ?!?

I'd be interested in the crank if you decide to part out. As long as it's not undersized.

Okay. I'll try to measure it.

Machined cranks usually have a spot of yellow/green/blue paint to indicate they've been undersized.

Do you have a head to go with it?

Sorry,no head. But the mystery deepens. It looks like it's a ALH crank in an AHU block with an AHU crank sensor wheel. Pics to follow.

Because of the oddness of this i will sell the crank for $150 and the block for an extra $50, $200 for both

That block looks more like an ALH block.

I haven't been able to see any part #'s . The block has 1.9 DI stamped on it so i guess It's an ALH block. It seems like an ALH crank, but with an AHU crank sensor. I may have to take the crank out to see any part # on it, however there is a large 038 stamped on one of the throws, which may mean an ALH . I don't really want to, but i guess i'll remove it to figure out this mess.

The water pump gives it away no?

The AAZ,1Z,AHU blocks all have intermediate shaft-driven oil pumps. Yours looks to be the fully chain-driven oil pump. Also, the block is much more heavily reinforced, which is typical on the ALH blocks. that's probably good for you, as you should be able to get more for an ALH block.

This shows my philosophy to help me through get through life which also include, not getting directions, assuming i know exactly where everything and everybody is, not writing down addresses, and who needs a list when going to the store? Next time i'll actually look at a part before listing it.  ::)

not getting directions

Guilty as charged!

It's probably too late now but do you have any pictures showing what was done to make it fit the mk3?

Not sure if this link will work, if not go back and look at the first pic a few posts back.

If you look at the edge on the block at the # 1 end, you can see where it's been ground down. Apparently there is some company that sells the mount to let this slip into a Mk 3 ?? I wasn't paying much attention [ see my last post ] where my guy brought it to me so i'm not really sure what the deal is.
