Title: 02A Gearbox
Post by: Jay on September 16, 2009, 05:32:32 am
I've got the opportunity to purchase an 02A Gearbox quite cheap (£50GBP ~ $82USD) with drive shafts & gear selector bits that go in the car, the g'box comes from a 2.0L '95 Passat, I've asked for the code of the box but the guy hasn't given that to me yet.

Would this be a good upgrade from the g'box that's on at the mo which crunches into 2nd and RoR reckons my tranny might be up the creek with that tappety noise I have.

If I get the g'box code I'll post it up as I know it'll be useful to know.

When he gives you the code, can he send you a photo too ?

I'll ask, I've also just asked him if I'll get the flywheel, clutch, clutch actuator, front engine mount and speedo cable (the speedo cable is £50 alone! otherwise).

The Passat 16v 02A's are fairly steep geared, they would probably not be worth the effort required to put in place of an 020.  (custom mount, cable to hydro clutch, and cable shifter to replace rod shifter being a few of your problems)

On the other hand the cable shifter is much nicer and the 02A is a better trans so...

at that price i'd get it, it'd be a nice upgrade and for it being that cheap, buying the mounts from someone who already sells them would be much more justified

I've tried contacting the user who made it, but so far no dice.
