NA all the way!!!   I like not having extra stuff to go wrong or get in the way... And with my current driving record the inablity to seriosly speed is good..   If I need a power fix I'll drive one of my other toys...

being able to pass cars, and spurt is very good though! unless you tweak your N/A pump, the car is usually quite a dog.  the K24 or T3 has a very good track record if you just run them at stock levels.

if i had a nice shop and the time, i'd probably fab up a permanent magnet bearing turbo. ohhh yea!  you N/A boys would be creaming your pants for one of those  ;D the spool time would be near zero, and the turbo would actually be able to power itself (using pulse motor technology, inductively charging itself) so not only is spool time reduced, but the turbo would actually be running at more than 100% efficiency.  next we'll talk about permanent magnet alternators, and how they consume about 1/2 the HP of a normal alternator.  8)

Well yeah, my pump is molested..  I'll handle most typical and necessary passing okay..  If I need a serious power fix though, I have the Crown Vic PI...

Yeah right!   ;D

I've read a bit about these..  Very interesting stuff...  I had to stop myself from going any further as I already have too much going on..

its very interesting indeed. i wish someone would come out with a kit to convert bosch alternators (a permanent magnet rotor hint hint)

Agreed!!!

My time and tooling is tied up for a while with fitting a hall effect sensor in a slant six distributor, assembling some variety of engine management computer, and fabricating an exhaust manifold so that I can........finish my turbo slant six build.. :-[

OKay I better rephrase myself

NA ALL THE WAY, on my VW

Actually isn;t such a beast available in the Gm Delco variety..   The one's I'm thinking of were identical to the alternators that GM used in the late 70's to the Mid 80's..  I can verify that this style of alternator is an easy swap onto a non a/c mk1...

N/A by choice and economic neccessity. I have a turbo I could fab together but just want simplicity and reliability for now. I just finished a cold air intake box for a cone filter inside the left air scoop column.  Gave me an extra 10 mph over a long grade I drive all of the time, just with that improvement.  This weekend I pull the double downpipe exhaust off of a donor '74 audi, and I'll see what a 4-2-1 can do.

So what would and ECO diesel count as? Id say both turbo and n/a. ;D
Also, I guess for me to be part of this poll I would have to have both my eco and n/a "running" ::)

pfft, turbo all the way. there is no such thing as too much boost. i still get 35 mpg with a black stream behind me. and if i can have something to beat on, have a great time, and still get around 35mpg, im gonna stay with it.

NA for me.  Of course I haven't even driven a turbo diesel, so no reference point.   My starter died last night so drove the wife's Aurora to work and could actually pass cars.   Not quite used to that.

Off topic but regarding the previously mentioned PMA,  http://cgi.ebay.com/PC-12-350-VDC-PMA-Permanent-Magnet-Alternator-Generator_W0QQitemZ280395457114QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4148df225a (http://cgi.ebay.com/PC-12-350-VDC-PMA-Permanent-Magnet-Alternator-Generator_W0QQitemZ280395457114QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4148df225a).

Fabbing mounting brackets might be fun.

brackets for that? its just a normal chevy style alt case it looks like to me. how would it be hard to put one on a idi? i could fab up the mounts and pulleys and stuff in a couple hours i bet.

I'm a sworn loyalist to NA as for DD.
49.6-52.1 mpg and i'm not holding anybody up anywhere.
Thats my whole concept. Its my bag, baby. MPG

But about to start some TD adventures and comparisons later on.
I have some of both now.

Off topic but regarding the previously mentioned PMA,

Yep!!! Those are the ones..    There is next to no bracket fabbing needed, at least on a non a/c mk1..   THe pulley from the vw alts will fit..  I used the deep pulley off a short shaft alternator from an early rabbit, 1 washer in the bracket where it pivots, and I had the lengthen and curve the adjuster..  I welded a piece the same width about 3" long to the existing adjuster at a slight angle and drilled a hole to bolt it fast...
