Title: front wheel bearings not filled fully with grease

me and my mate were replacing the front wheel bearings of my Honda accord, they had failed due to a flood we had earlier, So just for fun we thought of removing an inner race of the new one to see the grease in it, It was just about 10% filled. I have an oldstock FAG Golf front wheel bearing, and it was filled like crazy with green grease.

So which is it, should it be loaded with grease or just a little works for these. Me thinks that its the reason I have replaced this one bearing 4 times in 4 years.

Any ideas

put in some of that extreme pressure moly grease in there.  you don't want too much, but 10% sounds a bit low.  too much grease is actually a bad thing as it can cause the parts to not be able to move so freely, but at least they won't seize up  ;D

Ive got some geniune SKF green grease (Lithium soap - NLGI3) and im loading the bearing with that. Dont have the black moly grease in my home at the moment.

whats up with bearing companies cutting short on grease quantity -

seems like the norm these days... every company is pinching pennies :) lithium grease is good.

Sell more bearings and save on costs - where's the downside?   You know that conversation went on at some point.   There doesn't seem to be much focus on giving customers a good feeling about durability anymore.

hmm - youre pretty right - their executives need to Drive in Porsches anyway..

Im done with the bearing filled with new grease, Why is it that all over the internet and the bearing manual says not to remove the inner races from the bearing, and press the hub in with both races in them, my Honda factory manual says to remove the inner race and install the race on the hub - then press the hub into the bearing while support loading the other race.

Maybe just so we dont see how little of the good stuff is in there.
