i know the headgasket is different between the gas and diesel engines, but im going to be installing a new valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, waterpump and both main seals. now i can find these parts for really cheap but only for the gasoline engine. so i am wondering if i can use them on my diesel, or is the diesel gaskets different?
look at these prices for gasoline engine gaskets!

also, what about the clutch. can i use a gas engine clutch in my diesel?

valve cover gasket of diesel and gas engines, the waterpump seals, oil pan gasket and the crankshaft seals seems to be the same for 1.6 and 1.8 engines, diesel or gas 8v
but, are you asking for 1.8 8v gas, and 1.6 diesel engines or 2.0 8v and 1.9 TD engines?
my answer is partial, as is your question
you should tell us which engines to compare and our answer will be more precise
BTW: got my infos from the ETKA looking into german Jetta 89.
