Is there any benefit of the GTI vented front rotors over the solid fronts? VW is the only solid fronts I have ever seen so I wouldn't think that the solid is the best choice, but I have had really good luck with them. Also the caliper is no different from what I can tell it is just the pads and rotor correct? I have the option of switching that is why I am asking.

vented rotors are a good upgrade.

Depends on the driving you do.
The vented will allow you to dissipate the heat faster so you can brake harder or longer without fade
And yes, you only need change the rotors and pads. Calipers are the same

Ahhh.. I remember the good ol' times when I had solid rotors and I was able to brake furiously just once... after that, it wouldn't brake at all.. ;D
I went with GTI rotors. Reused my old pads. Works like a charm.

;D used pads are thinner that's why they fit ;D
the vented MK1 GTI disks fit no problem with the GTI pads (which are thinner than the original solid disks ones, solid disks are thinner)

sweet, this is what I had figured. I will give it a try.

Anyone got a specific year I can use if I try to get some for my 79 rabbit?
-
Any Mk. I or II.

1984 GTI

Wasn't trying to thread Jack but I went to autohausaz and looks like I need different calipers sense I have the pads that are almost little squares and these are different.

Oh yeah, german mk1s could be different...

i have brakes off an 82 Audi Coupe GT on the front of my jetta. honestly i dont even know why i put them on, ive never had a problem with my brakes. my rabbit (with solid disks) will lift the rear tires off the ground if you get on the brakes good enough. ive never had a car do nose wheelies before... but im glad it did one, cause there was a motor home all the way across the highway and there was nowhere for me to go, either under it, or through the deep ditches on the sides of the road, neither option looked very appealing to me so i just hogged on the brakes. i knew he would be buying me a new car tho if the brake thing didnt work. how do you not see a bright blue car coming at you at 60mph? the guy driving was old as hell and could probably barely see.

wow that's not a fun way to find out you can stop in a hurry

no, it wasnt fun at all, i was just a little heated after that. i really cant stand tourists. they come to my town, blow up the population by 200%, and they cant drive for crap. you are lucky to go 35 around here on the highway most of the time. it amazes me how stupid some people are. slow down on the straight stretches, but go like hell around the corners. then the city folks that come down here and drive slow, you get them home, and they are pretty much speedracer. i really hate driving around in portland or salem just because everyone drives so damn fast. speed limit is 35, everyone else is going 50.
