Title: GVWR - accomplished
Post by: Luckypabst on August 26, 2009, 06:38:59 pm
Right at the GVWR with an ironworker, a dog and myself...

5th gear just laughed at me (or was it crying?). I have to go 250 miles like this on Friday, into the greater LA area.

It's a little 30 ton ironworker

What's it do? I'm assuming "30 ton" refers to an applied pressure rating of some sort? Not it's actual weight? :D

Yea, that's a potential force of 30 tons... The truck would be flat if it weighed that much!
It has a punch and shear station and a place for interchangeable tooling - I have the plate bender and angle iron shear for it.

i would have put it right over the rear axle. ive seen a rabbit truck bent before from overloading it too far forward. it only had 27k miles on it, was a diesel, had a 5 speed, still the original owner too.

That's where we put it first and where I would have rather left it. I certainly had too much weight over the front axle (only rated to 177? additional lbs). The rear axle is rated to something like another 940 lbs but the springs didn't like all that weight... maybe 30 years ago it would have worked.
