I"m asking this for someone i know who spent a year or 2 doing a nice installation of an ALH TDI into a Pinzgauser. He's trying to get more performance out it- chip, bigger nozzles etc. I told him he should get an EGT gauge. He went ahead and installed ,putting the probe i believe where the EGR pipe used to come out. Going up big hills under throttle he's only seeing 800 o max. Is it possible the probe is too far downstream, or is it because the ECU driven fuel management keeps the exhaust temps low ?

Sounds like it could be too far down stream. He should get a laser thermometer and shoot a temp reading higher up stream and compare what the EGT says to what the thermometer says higher up stream.

the EGR port is the wrong location for the EGT probe. Thats where I had mine but I knew it was wrong and the next time I pulled the turbo I planned on drilling a new port for it in the manifold itself.

In my girlfriends car we had the egr delete. we taped the block off plate and got a longer probe, havent had any issues and it seems very accurate. i will try and find the link to the probe we are using.

this is the same probe we have, but this kit also has the blockoff plate.
