My GF can't figure out why I would order a 65$ shift knob just because its cool ;D. Is there anyone else that would buy something like that lol.

Looks nice but cold in the winter.  When I bought my first Golf, it had a custom machined aluminum knob, and it was no fun grabbing it the first thing on a cold winter morning.

I;ve always had a metal shift knob. I just let my car run a few minutes longer in the morning, plus I wear gloves when i first drive since its -30 here in the winter

That is sexy lol :D I'm use to the wal mart 12$ shifter my gf got me for my first golf lol. I usually cut the shifter rod down about 2 inches lol.

This made me laugh, I have never had this problem, but when I had my R32 the shift knob would get so hot in the summer that I could barely touch it. That's saying something too because I was working as a chef at the time and I could tolerate some heat.

GFs/wives are very missunderstanding people. My wife just can't understand why all the money MUST be spent on my Caddy. She also couldn't understand why anyone would spend weeks refinishing a 28-year-old Jaguar wooden wheel to put in a Volkswagen. ::)
Don't try to explain, just install the sticker that I did.

To put this straight, I never once said I married the "wrong" one. I've been married almost 40 years and I'd do it all again with the same woman. In fact, if I had one that loved cars, I'd be very suspicious. ;D

My gf(nat) Understands fully about my love for cars. I explained the reason why I would buy a 65$ shift knob and 100$ steering wheel is because I spend 3/4 of my time in the car. I travel ALOT. And my skills save us lots of money when it comes down to her car also. I did the Sparkplugs, Air filter, rotated the tires and it saved us over 150$ at the last servicing. And the bonus....SHE CAN WELD AND USE A GRINDER AND ALOT OF POWER TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!  ;D When I'm working in the garage shes next to me handing me the tools and doing the work with me. It helps her father is a Diesel Mechanic and knows more then anybody I';ve ever met...

Does she do body work? lolol

Nice 'connection' ya have with her dad as well..... :)

I  had no problem getting my soon to be wife addicted to VW's. She joined the local VW club with me. And the local SPAAMFAA (lots of letters for antique fire engines....lol) chapter. And I get to keep both the 89 VW and the fire engine in her backyard. Now I have to deal with neighbors......lolol

Guys in my firehouse break my chops about keeping the 89 Jetta. Said to one guy; "You used me and my truck to haul a 413 Chrysler for your 1964 boat . You have your hobby, I have mine..."  :)

As for 'Diesel Dyke 1', it will be heading to the Toronto area in a week or so for work by Tyler. Found a rebuilt 1.6 TD for $800 Canadian with 200 km on it (about 120 miles). JACKPOT!!!

While I love cars, no matter how hard I try, I am always Mr. Badwrench. I love reading what ALL you guys do with these engines and turbos (though the turbo language is still confusing.), and wish I really could.I don't think I will ever get the HP you guys do (tho it will DEFINITELY be getting 'Gilesfied...) :). I just need the power for the hills on NY Rt. 17. But what you guys do with these engines is TOTALLY AMAZING.

All kidding aside, keep up the great work. I may stay in Toronto a few days and watch Tyler do his thing (if he lets me.. ;) )

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

Damn, your too far. Need new fenders and a repaint on the 89. However, I was very impressed with the 20 year old undercoating still on the car.... Fenders rusted out behind the wheels, and spots on the doors.

Maybe I lucked out with this one... (except for the engine)  :)

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

Nice 'connection' ya have with her dad as well..... :)

When I mentioned to her Father I had bought another VW Diesel his first words...Add an Intercooler, Increase Boost and fuel. LOL. He use to build the septic trucks for the company ti'll last summer, and All the trucks he built before last summer I think are all still on the road and driving and haven't had many break downs. So when I build my new motor I'm getting him to help me put it together because he'll know everything I'll need to do to get the most power/efficiatcy and reliablitly out of it.

I usually cut the shifter rod down about 2 inches lol.

Mines cut down 3.5 :) Nice knob Catlin :P

cut down? pfft, mine is cut off, er, well, broken off. it happened during a drunk night 2 years ago on the 4th of july. taking off at a stop sign, fried off the tires in first, went to grab second, SNAP! so, the next person that went by was my buddy andy, and he happened to have a set of vise grips on his passenger side window crank, or where it was supposed to be. believe it or not, vice grips are actually a pretty comfy shifter. it almost feels like a pistol grip shifter, just not so huge and ghetto. but some of you might think a pair of visegrips is slightly ghetto. now that they have been my shifter for almost a year and a half tho, they may never come out.
